People that fly airplanes are dumb

ok so we have a bunch of pilots in the unit i am in. i am baffled that these dudes come in a say how hard they think IT stuff is. Hello, you fly airplanes!!!! changing an option in my outlook cant even remotely be as hard as flying and landing a damn airplane!!!

anyway i have heard that a couple of times and am just baffled by it. of course its making the job of who to go on training flights with easy. the dudes that cant create their own email signatures in outlook i probably will not be flying with. call me an optimist on the subject :-)

Weekend activities

last weekend we went and looked at a few furniture stores looking for some southwesterny furniture. we didnt buy any furniture but i did buy a big porclein rooster, once olive saw it she barked at it for a good 5 minutes until i sat down with her and the rooster and she saw that he was a cool rooster, now she and him are homies.

On sunday we took the girls to petsmart, they were actually better than me and Jamie predicted they would be so they got some dog treats and some ID tags for their collars. we will go back this weekend to make sure their chips work in the US and get them new chips if we have to.

Found Celis White

ok i found celis white, glazer’s didnt sell it but told me who around town does so i went and picked some up, still not hoegaarden which bums me out. gonna have to see if someone close in new mexico sells it and make a run then horde my good beer.

transitioning into work, had a half day on wed, they brought our unaccompanied goods today, nothing was broke and jamie got her dyson back so she was happy.  had a good amount of dog hair to get up.  our downstair air conditioner is working like crap and we are waiting for the land lady to bring her butt over and fix it.

we had a storm today with flash floods and all that.  its amazing that usually it snow that people cant drive in.  in el paso, its rain people cant drive in, who would have thought there would be a bazillion wrecks when it rains, craziness.  luckily jamie and I are pros at driving in the rain, so thats good.

guess thats it.

Picking up the cars in Galveston and Dallas

So we went to pick up the cars from Galveston and Dallas. we had to wait a day on the customs form for my car so we didnt get to pick it up until Tuesday and Jamie’s got there late so it worked out ok.  the BMW had some minor damage on the hood, looks like a rock hit it.

Jamie’s battey was dead, so we got a jump and let it run for awhile but i wanted to check to make sure it would start when we got gas so i turned the car off and of course it wouldnt start back up.  we got another jump and we drove over to the auto parts store where i “thought” i would have the easy job of just swapping the battery out.  well alas, the negative cable was completely stuck to the negative post and pulling on it just pulled out the entire post (yeah that sucked).  so i went in and bought another battery cable, well the jeep has some crazy two wire negative battery cable and of course they store didnt sell one, the solution ended up being cutting the cable adding some little clips so i could screw them to another top post terminal…all of that took about 2 hours.

my favorite quote from the whole trip was stopping in some hole in the wall dairy queen between galveston and dallas this guy walks in and orders the “belt buster” triple cheeseburger and then asks if he would have room for ice cream after.  plus he topped it all off with a diet coke.  gotta love it.

my patch job on the jeep got us back home and i am gonna get it fixed up this week and hopefully pass the texas safety inspection.

Pyrotechnics in El Paso

I guess there’s a reason fireworks are illegal inside the El Paso city limits.  Chris and our neighbors decided last weekend to buy some fireworks fun.  They lit several firecrackers and threw them over the hills behind our houses with no problems.  Of course, then one of the fireworks started a very small brushfire that didn’t go out by itself.  I guess someone driving along the road behind our house saw that and called the fire department.  We heard sirens several minutes later and a very large firetruck rolled up the street.  We all ran into our houses and peeked down the hill to see what was going on.  The firemen were shining lights up the hills, so we thought we were all in big trouble.  Lucky for us, they put out the fire and went along their way.  I’m glad to know that the fire department responds so quickly around here…we’ll try to be good from now on!

Texas is a really BIG state

We should know…we drove from Houston to El Paso.  We flew to Houston and stayed with my brother for two nights and picked up Chris’s car in Galveston.  There were issues with the customs forms so we were already two days behind.  We then drove to Dallas to pick up my car…of course the battery was dead.  Two hours later, the battery was changed and we decided to start on our 650 mile trip to El Paso.  We made it to Abilene and stayed the night.  The next morning we got on the road again.  Let’s just say that there isn’t much going on in central and west Texas…lots of desert and oil wells.  We made it to El Paso and picked up the puppies from the kennel…it was nice to be home.  Our unaccompanied baggage comes next week so things are finally shaping up!

Myspace and stupid ass parents

check out this link:

http://www.securityfocus.com/brief/232

its an article that talks about a mother and daughter suing a 19 year old for sexually assualting the 14 year old daughter after he met her on myspace.com. they are suing myspace for not protecting her daughter from sexual predators on the site. i wont reiterate the whole article but its not up to internet sites to protect people from other people on the net, especially when the attack happened because she gave the guy her phone number and went on a date with the guy. its up to parents to protect kids from the net. i feel sorry for faith because i am gonna be reading her email and looking at her IM transcripts to protect her from all those sickos out there in the world. why? because its Jamie and My job to protect her from that kind of stuff!

that mom that let her child do that stuff needs to get her ass kicke.  not to take away from the seriousness of the crime but that guy needs to go to jail for a long time, but responsibility should be given to the guilty party, the parent(s) not the website.

Trying to find US Maps for my TOMTOM GPS

when we lived in Belgium i bought this sweet ass GPS a TOMTOM GO700. the reason i bought it was because it had a hard drive and came with all the Europe maps except for Finland or something like that, some place i would never drive to so i wasnt worried about it. anyway, now that we are in the states i am trying to find the US Maps. Now i am trying to do the right thing by actually buying them instead of stealing them off the internet like i usually do for stuff i want but alas no one in the states sells them because all the GPS’s sold in the states come with the maps already loaded (makes sense actually). now the tomtom website “USED” to sell the damn maps on a DVD or CD (cant remember which) but of course friggin doesnt now that i need the fuckers.

so i have been to best buy…no dice, office depot…no dice, compusa (and i HATE compusa)…no dice but the stupid whore there did say i could always use a paper map, well i guess i should just shove the 500 dollar tomtom up my ass and just use a regular map instead of getting US maps. anyway, the search goes on…

UPDATE 2 AUG 06

you can download the maps (for $$$) from the tomtom site under plus services:

sandstorms suck my A$$

so we got our first el paso sandstorm today, i see why everyone parks their cars in their garages or has to get them painted every couple of years because that stuff is crazy, sand everywhere. sand so think it looks like fog and hides the mountain from sight, that's alot of sand.

i got a new grill today so hopefully i can fire that puppy up this weekend. its a stainless steel, 3 burner, with a side burner job, its pretty slick, i'll let everyone know how it works because i know you are all on the edge of your computer chairs to find out.

we're gonna go pick up our cars (hopefully plural–jamie's still hasnt shown up as arrived yet on the website) next week and we should be getting settled after that. we got the keys to the house, but there was no gas, no fridge, no food. so everyone comes all day tomorrow. by the end of the day we should have gas for the stove, cable and internet (that's really all in need to survive) and a nice pretty fridge to keep some beer cold and i guess some food too, gotta have something to go with the beer.

still on the lookout for a good beer store, jamie says she saw one over by Lowes so i will have to go check that out soon, see if they have hoegaarden. i am needing my fix…

i guess that's it.
