Myspace and stupid ass parents

check out this link:

http://www.securityfocus.com/brief/232

its an article that talks about a mother and daughter suing a 19 year old for sexually assualting the 14 year old daughter after he met her on myspace.com. they are suing myspace for not protecting her daughter from sexual predators on the site. i wont reiterate the whole article but its not up to internet sites to protect people from other people on the net, especially when the attack happened because she gave the guy her phone number and went on a date with the guy. its up to parents to protect kids from the net. i feel sorry for faith because i am gonna be reading her email and looking at her IM transcripts to protect her from all those sickos out there in the world. why? because its Jamie and My job to protect her from that kind of stuff!

that mom that let her child do that stuff needs to get her ass kicke.  not to take away from the seriousness of the crime but that guy needs to go to jail for a long time, but responsibility should be given to the guilty party, the parent(s) not the website.

Trying to find US Maps for my TOMTOM GPS

when we lived in Belgium i bought this sweet ass GPS a TOMTOM GO700. the reason i bought it was because it had a hard drive and came with all the Europe maps except for Finland or something like that, some place i would never drive to so i wasnt worried about it. anyway, now that we are in the states i am trying to find the US Maps. Now i am trying to do the right thing by actually buying them instead of stealing them off the internet like i usually do for stuff i want but alas no one in the states sells them because all the GPS’s sold in the states come with the maps already loaded (makes sense actually). now the tomtom website “USED” to sell the damn maps on a DVD or CD (cant remember which) but of course friggin doesnt now that i need the fuckers.

so i have been to best buy…no dice, office depot…no dice, compusa (and i HATE compusa)…no dice but the stupid whore there did say i could always use a paper map, well i guess i should just shove the 500 dollar tomtom up my ass and just use a regular map instead of getting US maps. anyway, the search goes on…

UPDATE 2 AUG 06

you can download the maps (for $$$) from the tomtom site under plus services:

sandstorms suck my A$$

so we got our first el paso sandstorm today, i see why everyone parks their cars in their garages or has to get them painted every couple of years because that stuff is crazy, sand everywhere. sand so think it looks like fog and hides the mountain from sight, that's alot of sand.

i got a new grill today so hopefully i can fire that puppy up this weekend. its a stainless steel, 3 burner, with a side burner job, its pretty slick, i'll let everyone know how it works because i know you are all on the edge of your computer chairs to find out.

we're gonna go pick up our cars (hopefully plural–jamie's still hasnt shown up as arrived yet on the website) next week and we should be getting settled after that. we got the keys to the house, but there was no gas, no fridge, no food. so everyone comes all day tomorrow. by the end of the day we should have gas for the stove, cable and internet (that's really all in need to survive) and a nice pretty fridge to keep some beer cold and i guess some food too, gotta have something to go with the beer.

still on the lookout for a good beer store, jamie says she saw one over by Lowes so i will have to go check that out soon, see if they have hoegaarden. i am needing my fix…

i guess that's it.

got a place to live

we signed the lease on the place today so we move in on Thursday. we had to rent some furniture for 3 days so we have somewhere to stick our butts while our stuff is in-route but its all good. the place didnt come with a fridge, evidently the lady that owns the house rented it to her sister and they sold the good appliances and put crappy ones in and somewhere along the way the fridge ended up missing. so we bought one that we will take with us. we gotta get a washer and dryer too which sucks, we got a lead on a free dryer so we'll see how that goes. dont want to spend too much.

we meant to take pictures because we have a great view of the moutains from the front and a good view of the valley from the back, but we were so excited that we actually got the lease we forgot, but no worries i'll have some for everyone soon. its a nice nice place.

we didnt do much else, i found a badass grill at target, so if its still there on Thursday i am gonna get it, gotta have a grill, gotta eat. the neighbors have never had beer can chicken so i predict that will be one of the first meals we make over there.

if you give a crap here is the recipe (thanks Google)

Beer Can Chicken

1 (4-pound) whole chicken
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons of your favorite dry spice rub
1 can beer

Remove neck and giblets from chicken and discard. Rinse chicken inside and out, and pat dry with paper towels. Rub chicken lightly with oil then rub inside and out with salt, pepper and dry rub. Set aside.
Open beer can and take several gulps (make them big gulps so that the can is half full). Place beer can on a solid surface. Grabbing a chicken leg in each hand, plunk the bird cavity over the beer can. Transfer the bird-on-a-can to your grill and place in the center of the grate, balancing the bird on its 2 legs and the can like a tripod.
Cook the chicken over medium-high, indirect heat (i.e. no coals or burners on directly under the bird), with the grill cover on, for approximately 1 1/4 hours or until the internal temperature registers 165 degrees F in the breast area and 180 degrees F in the thigh, or until the thigh juice runs clear when stabbed with a sharp knife. Remove from grill and let rest for 10 minutes before carving.

house hunting, sweating our arse’s off, and other stuff

its still damn hot here, actually even the locals and people that have been here awhile say its hot, so i guess us bitching about it being hot is ok, cuz its damn hot…

we think we found a place to live (rent), its on the west side and we have already met a bunch of the neighbors and they are all pretty cool and lots of labs in the neighborhood so truff and olive should have some buddies. more on the house tomorrow (hopefully) after we sign the lease contract.

I got to meet my new boss, he seems like a good guy and the unit seems like a good place.

we are ready to move out of the hotel but its got internet so its not "that" bad :-) its actually a nice room and we luckily are in one of the corners so we only have noisy neighbors on one side instead of both and across from us, so that's good.

picked up some shiner bock hefeweizen beer to try, its actually pretty damn good, specially since we are beer snobs now. once we get settled on will be on my quest to find hoegaarden or at least some celis white.

Its Father’s Day so why did Faith get all the presents??!!

happy father’s day to me! “firsts” are usually the best and this one was pretty good, hopefully father’s days get better every year, i’ll let you know in 365 days.

We went shopping to day to kinda learn our way around el paso. We hit up the PX to buy some personal items like shampoo and tooth bruses, his up babies r’ us, and dropped massive bank. Faith got her pink leap pad for babies, a guess how much i love you book for the leap pad, a new stuffed animal for the stroller (some fishies that squeek), some clothes for 4th of July, a stuffed ring stacking thing (like one of those sticks that you place the rings of different sizes on, but stuffed) and laugh and learn puppy.

we hit up best buy, it was tough, but i contained myself and only bought one DVD, the first season of American Dad. i had a gift card so i only spent a little bit of cash. i also got a rewards card and you get money back as you spend there. since i hate compusa with a passion and i only go to circuit city if the item is significantly cheaper than best buy, i think it will come in handy. dont know if we got any big purchases planned but my dvd addiction should rack up those reward points pretty quick. i also looked for the U.S. Maps for my TomTom but they didnt have them. i guess i’ll have to get them off the net.

we hit up target and jamie bought some stuff and went to a shoe store and i got some summer shoes so i dont have to wear my tennis shoes everywhere and get the stinkfoot.

i have to add its super nice to be able to hit up all those different stores in one day and have this thing called a selection, soooooo weird.

We got phones finally too, i got a blackberry 7130e

Link

jamie got an LG camera phone, mp3 player and all that. she also conned me into a sweet pink bluetooth handsfree kit for it, lucky her. we are on verizon so we can call people on verizon without it taking away from our minutes which is good stuff.

guess thats all for now

in case you didnt know its damn hot in El Paso…

well after 27 hours on belgian time we made it to El Paso, and thankfully our dogs made it too, talk about a pain in the ass. if we ever end up going back to Europe I will definitely be thinking hard about not bring them for their own sake, must have sucked to fly over underneath the plane in the kennels.

anyway, the drama started on wed morning in brussels where the airline told us we couldnt get on the plane at all because it was too hot in El Paso, after checking my tickets to ensure that we werent flying directly to El Paso i calmly (yea me) said i would prefer to be stuck in Chicago with the dogs rather than brussels because it was a much shorter swim, after about an hour of craziness we got the dogs tagged and bagged and they were able to get to chi-town.

from chicago, after a 6 hour (which turned into 8 ) hour lay over to let it cool down in el paso (it over 100 everyday) we got the dogs on the plane and we all arrived around midnite el paso time, 8 am belgium time (ugh)

they are adjusting well, the heat is dry so everyone is taking some time adjusting with the dry nostrils but i think it will be ok.

currently we are trying to find a place to live, more updates on that tomorrow

Great Steaks and Great Wine and Early Sunday wakeups

Randy invited us over for dinner on Saturday and made these awesome steaks that had lavander used as seasoning, man they were good and he put onions and garlic in the potatos, really really good.  he also cracked open the bottle of Brunello di Montalcino i bought him when we were down in Tuscany.  now i had a little sample of the wine in the store but it didnt even remotely compare to how good is was with that awesome steak.  two thumbs up Randy!

Here are some decent links on Brunello di Montalcino

We got a loud knock on the door soundling like an infantry squad about to bust down the door.  it was the cleaning lady at 0915 Sunday Morning asking if we wanted the room cleaned, i told her to come back after lunch but its crazy, during the week we dont see them till like 2 in the afternoon but on the weekends (because she did the same thing) they are raring to go to clean some stuff up, i think its a ploy to get out of work, we say hell no if you get woken up so they get out of work.  lazyiness is the mother of ingenuity

We were going to head down to Duo Duo fest down in Mons, but i dont think its going to happen, i think my tolerance for stinky belgians and drunk people is pretty low and its like going to a concert with people everywhere.  they run a dragon down the street that has hairs in it tail and everyone tries to grab a hair because its good luck so you can imagine the craziness that that brings.  its also a complete beer fest which normally would be fun, but since we are so close to getting out of here i think we just want to leave
